Butylglycol is used in formulations of cleaners in general with solvent action acting in the solubilization of oily dirt and mainly in helping the surfactant as a co-emulsifier and lowering the surface tension, promoting better wetting of the surface.
Another interesting feature of Butylglycol is its ability to clean without misting the surface, making it an excellent component in glass cleaner formulations.
Its characteristic of wetting promotion is the main attribute that makes it a key component in acrylic waxes, contributing to the leveling of the film, and also contributing to the mechanical strength, acting as a plasticizer.
The dosages to be applied depend a lot on the other components of the formulation, but the most commonly applied concentration range is 0.5 to 2.0% in cleaners and 3 to 10% in acrylic waxes.
Butylglycol is also used as a plasticizer and solvent in paint formulations.

When developing products, many of the challenges we face have to do with solubility. In the overwhelming majority of cases, the best option for these challenges is to use a good hydrotrope.
